Catching Up With 5-Star QB Julian Sayin

“It’s a little crazy…” That’s what five-star QB Julian Sayin says about the meteoric rise he’s experienced in the recruiting rankings over the last year. Julian’s freshman season of high-school football coincided with the Covid-19 pandemic and Sayin backed up his older brother Aidan, only seeing playing time at the end of games. Then came 2021. His older brother now playing college football for Penn, Julian was thrust into the starting role at Carlsbad High School in his hometown of Ca

Welcome to Dawgs Central

Hello and welcome to Dawgs Central. As we start this journey, it’s important to tell you why we are here, what we are hoping to achieve, and how we plan to bring our subscribers a valuable experience that they won’t find anywhere else on the web…  In the broadest sense, Dawgs Central is a collective of your favorite independent UGA personalities. We have come together because we believe our strengths as creators complement one another well, and by working together we will give Georgia

2022 UGA Advanced Stat/Scheme Preview - The Secondary

The Known We know two things for sure about Georgia’s secondary 1. Kelee Ringo will be UGA’s top Cornerback. 2. Christopher Smith will return at Safety to anchor the back end of Georgia’s defense. Kelee Ringo started last season as the ultra talented recruit who Georgia was hoping would hold up opposite of established veteran Derion Kendrick. He had some freshman moments early in the season, but as the year went along he proved himself.  Ringo played 516 coverage snaps w

The 3 Questions UGA Must Find Answers for During Fall Camp

1. Who will play Guard? The largest weakness on Georgia’s 2021 offense was its Guard play. The inconsistency from Warren Ericson and Justin Shaffer created dozens of busted plays and caused UGA’s rushing offense to stall on many series throughout the season. If you don’t believe me, go back and look at the way Missouri dominated the center of UGA’s line at the end of last season. Shaffer is now in the NFL, but Ericson remains in the Georgia program.  Let’s take a look at this chart for

UGA Commit CJ Allen Talks to DawgsCentral About His Game, His Goals & Georgia’s 2023 Class

CJ Allen sat down with me recently on camera for an interview that we planned on airing on DawgsCentral. Unfortunately some technical problems caused the video quality to be too spotty for us to turn into a video segment. Our conversation is printed here in its entirety. Graham: What’s up, CJ? How are you doing? CJ Allen: I’m doing good… Thank you for having me Graham: Absolutely, thanks for coming on… So you made the leap and committed to Georgia back in late June. It seems like

2022 UGA Advanced Stat/Scheme Preview: Inside WR’s

We continue our detailed position group previews this week with a look at UGA’s Inside Receivers for 2022. While much of the talk this offseason has been rightfully focused on UGA’s potentially historic group of Tight-Ends, the Dawgs will quietly deploy one of the best groups of inside receivers in the SEC and maybe all of college football.  In 2021, 56.2% of Stetson Bennett’s pass attempts came in the middle of the field. That was down slightly from the 61.5% of his attempts that came betw

Narrative Check: Does UGA Really Have a WR Development Problem?

Those of you who have followed my work for a little while know that I’m always weary of media narratives. Before I take the line that is being repeated over and over on Twitter or talk radio at face value I have to do my own digging. Last offseason the two narratives I tackled most were “Dan Mullen is a Top Ten Coach” and “Kirby Smart Can’t Develop.” Well, I think we know how those turned out. Georgia’s 2021 National Championship killed the vast majority of the negative narratives that wer

UGA Advanced Stat Preview 2022: Outside WR’s

If you’ve followed college football during the offseason over the last decade then you have probably heard the term “returning production” thrown around quite a bit. Bill Connelly, now of ESPN, first started quantifying returning production as part of his SP+ rankings. Nearly every website that aggregates content throws up a list of his returning production rankings when they come out in the Spring.  What is less widely known is that one can look back over the years and see that returning W

Dawgs Central Prediction/Evaluation: Four-Star DT Sydir Mitchell to UGA

The Dawgs Central staff has entered a commitment prediction for four-star defensive tackle Sydir Mitchell. The team at Dawgs Central is projecting Mitchell to commit to UGA. Mitchell is a 6’5” 345 pounder out of Oradell, NJ. He is a consensus Top 5 overall player in the state of New Jersey, and possesses ideal size for an SEC interior lineman. Mitchell was double and triple-teamed all year playing on one of the nation’s best high-school football teams at Bergen Catholic. Mitchell’s high-sch

Dawgs Central Prediction: Four-Star WR Tyler Williams to UGA

The Dawgs Central staff is ready to put in a prediction for four-star 2023 WR Tyler Williams, and we expect that the talented Lakeland (FL) WR will sign with UGA. At 6’3” and 180 pounds, Tyler Williams possesses the type of size that SEC offensive coordinators dream of. What’s rare is that Williams packages legit breakaway speed and tough running ability after the catch with his long athletic frame. Williams started his high-school career at the quarterback position, which gives him a natur

Dawgs Central Catches Up With 4-Star DT Jamaal Jarrett

Over the last few months Jamaal Jarrett has been one of the fastest rising prospects in the 2023 class. Last week he cancelled his official visit to Texas A&M and announced he has trimmed his list of potential destinations to three schools. He also told the college football world that his commitment will come on July 19th. Georgia, North Carolina & Auburn are the programs vying for Jarrett’s services. With just a month remaining until he chooses his future home, the 6’6” 350 pound Jarret

On Fathers, Family & Football

Those of you who have followed my writing at past stops may know a little bit more about my background than some of you who have not. With that in mind, I wanted to use Father’s Day as an opportunity to reflect on both why I am passionate about college football and why I believe in what we do here at Dawgs Central. On the eve of the 2019 season I tried to make sense of why UGA fans get excited for football season year after year. After all, the prior seasons had brought the following result

Georgia On His Mind: Catching Up With 5-Star WR Jalen Hale

Last weekend featured one of the more memorable lineups of visiting prospects in the Kirby Smart era. UGA welcomed 11 of the top 125 overall recruits in the class of 2023 to the Classic City, with the Bulldogs recruiting staff bringing out all the stops for the star studded list of prospects. Among those on campus was five-star Texas native Jalen Hale. Hale is 6’2” and 175 pounds. His long frame makes him a big play threat down the field but his 4.5 forty-yard dash time gives him the speed

Dawgs Central Radio Ep. 1 - Talking Conference Championship Odds, SEC Schedule Changes & DawgsCentral

Josh and I sat down to talk yesterday. Our show is ostensibly the same, but the name has changed and going forward we plan to record more often and with a larger rotation of personalities. We kicked the show off with a little bit of discussion on why this new website you’re on has come into existence before chatting about pre-season odds for conference champions in the ACC, Big 12, PAC-12 and SEC. We also gave our thoughts on the proposed scheduling models being considered at SEC Spring Mee
