Hogs and Dawgs Basketball Preview
Arkansas is sneaky good. I am sure that they won’t sneak on Coach Mike White. The Razorbacks made it to the Elite 8 last season losing to Duke in Regional Semis. While the AP doesn’t have them ranked, Ken Pomeroy’s metrics has them as the #16 team in college. Arkansas beat Florida on Saturday and sits at 18-9 overall and an even 7-7 in SEC. The NCAA SRS rating has them with 16.9 which is third best in league. This will be another tough game.
This time the Dawgs will be challenged on the inside. The Razorbacks have shot the fewest three pointers in SEC, and have a 48% FG. Georgia will need to play one their best defensive performances of the season and try to contest shots and get what few rebounds there are to keep from being blown out in back to back game.
The Razorbacks are led by Ricky Council (16.4 Pts, 3.5 Reb, 2.5 Ast - 14.2 in SEC),
Anthony Black (13.0 Pts, 5.1 Reb, 4.2 Ast- 13.9 in SEC), and Davonte Davis (10.7 Pts, 4.0 Reb, 2.9 Ast- 12.9 in SEC). Council ranks 2nd SEC in PPG and 8th in shooting with 44.8% FG. Black is 4th in Assists, and Makhi Mitchell is first in SEC FG percentage knocking down shots at 66%.
I don’t expect Georgia to get the win, but would like to see them come out less timid against the Razorbacks. Arkansas can’t afford to slip up and need to rack up wins to get above the 7 line in the NCAA. Dawgs can regroup and focus on three more games with better matchups than the last two juggernauts.
