Weekly Recruiting Overview 10/24/22

Just because there is a bye week in the schedule doesn't mean that recruiting also slows down. As a matter of fact, it actually picks up in a way because the coaching staff uses the free time as an opportunity to hit the road (air) and go see top targets. Kirby Smart and company jumped in cars, planes, and copters and hit the Friday night lights across the country this past weekend.

Kirby Smart was able to go to Florida to see 2023 5* EDGE Damon Wilson (more on him later) and 2023 4* DL Jordan Hall. Two other interesting visits involved UGA coaches making their way across the country. Ace recruiter and tight ends coach Todd Hartley went to see 5* TE Duce Robinson play. This shows that we are very serious about trying to bring him in to this class. We also sent receivers coach Bryan McClendon to see 4* WR and Louisville commit DeAndre Moore. Again, this is very telling in how much we really want to flip him from Louisville. Moore is scheduled to take his official visit to UGA for the Tennessee game. Check out all of the other visits our coaches made last weekend HERE.

The Dawgs were able to secure one commitment Sunday, after adding 2023 4* RB Roderick Robinson, 2024 4* QB Ryan Puglisi, and 2024 3* WR Sacovie White earlier in October. Chris Peal had been a top target for Fran Brown since the DB coach got to Athens. Co-defensive coordinator Will Muschamp has also played a big part in making sure the talented 4* cornerback knows how much of a priority he is for the 2023 class. Jim Harbaugh and Michigan did everything they could to pry the North Carolina native away from Athens, but it just wasn't enough in the end. Peal joins 5* AJ Harris, 4* Daniel Harris, and 4* Justyn Rhett as the prospects in this class labeled cornerback. I personally believe Rhett will join 4* Joenel Aguero at the safety position when they get to Athens. Check out what Peal means to this class HERE.

There was one more commit that sort of involved Georgia, mainly because 3033 4* ATH Malachi Coleman always mentioned the Dawgs in his top group and somewhere he would like to visit. Of course the Nebraska native committed to the Cornhuskers Saturday as everyone expected. There was also one decommit to keep an eye on. Last week I mentioned in-state RB Peyton Streko decommitting from Air Force. The 5'9 185 pounder from West Forsyth High School would be a perfect preferred walk on for Kirby Smart and company.

While there aren't any commits heavily involved with UGA that are already scheduled to make their decision, it wouldn't surprise me to see 5* EDGE Damon Wilson decide soon. The Georgia Bulldogs and Ohio State Buckeyes are in an intense battle for who some (including me) consider a top five prospect in the nation. There has been a bit of back and forth here with both programs gaining momentum and is truly one that could come down to the wire.

If there are any visitors in Jacksonville this weekend, they'll be there more as fans and the coaches won't be able to have any communication with them. Georgia will make up for that the week after with what is shaping up to be the biggest gameday recruiting weekend ever in Athens, GA when the Dawgs host the Tennessee Volunteers. We'll have you covered there and already have 10 five stars on our visit list, which will be released next Monday. Don't be surprised if there are a few prospects committed elsewhere on the list.
