Official Dawgs Central Prediction/Player Eval for 5* Safety Joenel Aguero

One position group The University of Georgia should have no problem recruiting is the secondary group. Top targets should be fighting to learn under  Kirby Smart as the Head Coach, along with Will Muschamp and Fran Brown on Staff. The trio gives UGA one of the best, if not the best coaching tandems in the nation. Even before Muschamp and Brown arrived, there has never really been a problem getting the best of the best coenerbacks to play their college ball in Athens.

While safety recruiting hasn't been as strong as with the cornerbacks in Kirby Smart's tenure, it has been far from wanting. The Dawgs were able to bring in two 5* safeties on board in 2017. Richard LeCounte was drafted in the 5th round of the 2021 NFL draft, but there's no need to get into what has happened with Deangelo Gibbs. Chris Smith and Divaad Wilson were in the 2018 class. Of course Wilson transferred to UCF, while Smith will be a key leader on defense for UGA this season. The 2019 class brought Tyrique Stevenson and Lewis Cine. Stevenson transferred to Miami where he supposedly would be able to play cornerback. Cine has been the star safety in Kirby Smart's time in Athens, being pocked in the first round of the 2022 NFL draft. The 2020 class has hurt us as far as the safety position is concerned, with both Major Burns and Daran Branch leaving Athens for different reasons. As far as the 2021 class is concerned, both David Daniel and Javon Bullard are coming into their own. Class of 2022 signees Malaki Starks and JaCorey Thomas are also making strides.

The top two safety targets for the class of 2023 are Caleb Downs and Joenel Aguero. The duo could/should be considered the top two safeties in the nation. WIth Downs possibly trending to Alabama with a decision likely coming in August, the 5* Aguero becomes all the more important. Will Muschamp has been all over this recruitment and Aguero has been trending to UGA for a while. There is often a lot of excitement generated around these 5* recruits as their decision days near, and Aguero is no different. Florida and Ohio State have both made their pitches to try and bring the 6'0 195 pound safety their way, but Miami is the latest to try and make a big move.

Their seems to be a lot of excitement around the Hurricane program right now with Mario Cristobol taking over. It's also VERY OBVIOUS they're taking advantage of there being little to no rules at all with NIL coming into play.  The Dawgs have been the constant in Aguero's recruitment, but there has been some late buzz around Miami. Is it real buzz or is it the old play where a lot of fans talk about one school at the end to try and generate excitement, just for the top prospect to choose who has seemingly been in the lead all along?

We're going with the latter and putting in an Official Dawgs Central Prediction for Joenel Aguero to UGA!
