Kirby Smart met with the media following UGA's seasoning opening 48-7 win over UT Martin.

He opened his remarks by saying the UGA fans, "were elite tonight." Smart then goes on to say, "I'll be honest with you I was concerned about complacency among our team, but I was also concerned about complacency among our crowd." With this being the first night game in a long time in Sanford Stadium, Smart says the atmosphere was really good for the players but says they didn't respond to it early.

A big talking point for this Georgia team this week was setting the standard for how they prepare for games. Smart said the team did a really good job preparing for the game all week but didn't meet the measurements for that standard during the game. Injuries to a couple of positions on offense forced some guys to play early, and Smart expected butterflies. He goes on to say, "A lot of kids grew up tonight."

He was proud of Carson in his first start and said he had, "Great composure." Smart said the way he played tonight was the way he looked during scrimmages. "He did some great things, and I'm proud of him," Smart says. Kirby then says that Carson needs help around him, with the key being getting some banged-up guys back on the field.

He made sure to highlight the play of CJ Smith and Mekhi Mews. "They are guys that stepped up tonight, and they're two guys that had outstanding camps," Smart says. If he was handing out game balls, they would've been the ones to get them.

UT Martin showed up in a big way when it came to stopping the run. Smart says they have to get more explosive in the running game. He says the offensive line has to have more mobility to become more explosive.

In the injury department, Ladd was held out due to a back injury, and Marcus Rosemey-Jacksaint was held out due to an internal issue. Jackson Meeks is dealing with a foot injury at the moment.

When asked how Mike Bobo looked in his first game back as Georgia OC Smart says, "I think things went really well, but we struggled early in the game." In the play where Carson Beck throws behind Dominic Lovett, Smart says that was a play they ran hundreds of times during camp. On this occasion, miscommunication led to the pass being incomplete.

He said it was important that Brock Vandagriff and Gunner Stockton came in and didn't hand the ball off. "Stockton's group didn't execute as well as the others, and Brock was held back by penalties," Smart adds.

The biggest thing Kirby said tonight was, "I'll never apologize for a win." Many fans were very critical of the Bulldogs showing on the field tonight, but in the end, Kirby is happy with the win.

Smart says Kendall Milton wasn't 100%, but, "He played because he wanted to play and didn't want us to play with two backs that have never played college ball before." He says Milton was about 90%, and Daijuan Edwards could have played, but he's less healthy than Milton. He says he was super proud of freshman running back Roderick Robinson. Smart adds that getting production from Robinson and Andrew Paul early in the season is big for Georgia.

At a point during the game, Smart said he was unsure if he was going to be able to bring in all the backups, but he says he's proud of all the guys that played and that it was really big for their growth. He said he's over the days of blowing out teams and wants to focus more on making sure everyone gets a chance to play. Another big quote from Smart tonight was, "At the end of the day, there's one thing I know…we have to get better."
