Georgia heads to Auburn With Both Teams Needing a Win- @DawgStats
Auburn is safely in the NCAA field, but the Tigers seed might be trending in the wrong direction after back to back losses to Texas A&M (15-6, 7-1 in SEC) and West Virginia (13-9, 2- 7 in Big 12). Auburn hung onto a AP rank after the WVU loss and is #25. Currently Ken Pomeroy has the Tigers as his 30th ranked team. So, suffice to say, Auburn needs this win.
But so do the Bulldogs. Georgia has played a fairly easy schedule thus far. In fact, Georgia's strength of schedule is last in SEC. They got a hard fought win at home on Saturday and are 11-1 at home, and an upset win in Auburn would keep alive faint hopes of a postseason birth. Terry Roberts has put the team on his back averaging 17 PPG in SEC Play which ranks 6th in conference. Auburn has 3 players averaging double digit points (Wendell Green 13.6, Johni Broome 13.4 , and Jaylin Williams 11.1). Georgia needs Oquendo to step up as his numbers and minutes have declined in league play and is just shooting 2 of 10 from three since the Kentucky game. Jabri Abdur-Rahim will also need to continue his solid play for Georgia. Abdur-Rahim is 10th SEC 3 point percentage among players averaging multiple shots a game.
This game might be a mismatch, but Coach Mike White has shown that this team is on the way up and a competitive game (maybe another upset) would be one more indication of that.
