On Monday, UGA freshman WR Nitro Tuggle announced his plans to enter the transfer portal via tweets from On3’s Hayes Fawcett and Tuggle’s own Twitter account. On Tuesday, Tuggle seemingly reversed course, posting to social media that he is not leaving. Keeping the former 4-star recruit is a big win for Georgia after he showed promise in snaps against Tennessee and Texas late in the season.
The portal opened Monday following Georgia's SEC Championship victory over Texas, with two Georgia Bulldogs, Julian Humphrey and Micheal Jackson III entering their name. However, Tuggle, who has seen limited opportunities in his first season, reversed course and announced he's not entering his name.
Tuggle was a four-star recruit from Indiana in the class of 2024, ranked as the No. 24 wide receiver. Thus far in his freshman campaign he has logged three catches for 34 yards, with his best game being against Tennessee when he had two catches for 25 yards.
The Georgia receiver room has been widely scrutinized throughout the season with a myriad of issues. Before the season began, Rara Thomas was dismissed from the team, and Miami transfer Colbie Young has been suspended indefinitely since Oct. 8. While there was optimism Georgia would get Young back for the Sugar Bowl, his charges were not dropped, therefore he will be unable to rejoin the team for its first playoff game.
Aside from disciplinary issues, the team has struggled mightily with drops throughout the season.
However, help is on the way as Georgia signed 2025 five-star receiver Talyn Taylor, four-star CJ Wiley and four-star Landon Roldan among others in its most recent class.
Additionally, Georgia has been linked to the No. 1 overall transfer portal player, wide receiver Eric Singleton Jr from Georgia Tech. Georgia is reportedly one of three SEC visits Singleton will take in the upcoming week.
While managing the transfer portal, head coach Kirby Smart and his staff are preparing for the team's College Football Playoff quarterfinal game against the winner of Notre Dame vs Indiana. The Sugar Bowl will be on Jan. 1 at 8:45 p.m. ET.
