The latest College Football Playoff rankings have been released and Georgia moved up three spots to No. 7. This move comes after the Bulldogs' 59-21 win over UMass, along with losses by Alabama, Indiana, and Ole Miss.

Although Georgia comes in at No. 7, the Bulldogs will be the No. 8 seed in the new 12-team format. If the rankings were to stay put, No. 8 Georgia would welcome the No. 9 seed Tennessee Volunteers back to Athens for a first-round rematch.

Kirby Smart's crew is the highest-ranked two-loss team, showing a trend of the playoff committee heavily valuing the loss category when determining their rankings. The Bulldogs can shake things up two weeks from now with a win in Atlanta.

Texas is ranked No. 3 in the country and No. 2 in the playoff format, due to the four highest-ranked conference champions receiving first-round byes. The Longhorns have an in-state rivalry game this Saturday against No. 20 Texas A&M, with the winner heading to Atlanta to take on Georgia.

According to ESPN, Texas is a 5.5-point favorite against the Aggies. Following Texas A&M's upset loss at Auburn last week, many expect the Bulldogs to face Texas in Atlanta.

The winner of the SEC Championship game would most likely be one of the four highest-ranked conference champions and receive a first-round bye. Georgia's path to a first-round bye is completely in their hands, as long as they handle business against Georgia Tech on Friday.

The latest projected College Football Playoff bracket is as follows:

    • #1 Oregon: Bye
    • #2 Texas: Bye
    • #3 Miami: Bye
    • #4 Boise State: Bye
    • #5 Ohio State vs. #12 Arizona State
    • #6 Penn State vs. #11 Indiana
    • #7 Notre Dame vs. #10 SMU
    • #8 Georgia vs. #9 Tennessee

If we were to win out and get a first round bye, which bowl would be going to for the quarterfinals? USA Today article said that the top seeds would have their choice of where to play, but 247 Sports says that the SEC has an automatic tie-in to the Sugar Bowl, so the SEC champion would play their quarterfinal game there.  Does anyone have the "real" scoop?
