Georgia senior quarterback Carson Beck will miss the rest of the 2024-2025 season after undergoing successful surgery to repair his ulnar collateral ligament (UCL) on Monday. The news came via a release by the university. The procedure on Beck’s elbow occurred after he was hit on his right throwing arm while trying to release a Hail Mary on the last play of the first-half of Georgia’s 22-19 win over Texas in the SEC Championship.

The release stated that Beck is expected to make a full recovery, and is slated to begin throwing again this spring.

The release did not state if Beck underwent Tommy John surgery. That procedure is often performed on MLB pitchers, and it usually requires a year or more to fully recover.

With Beck’s stated timetable, it is possible that he will be able to throw on some level prior to the beginning of the 2025 NFL Draft, which will take place April 24-26. While Beck has yet to announce a decision on an NFL future, many feel it is likely he will leave college for the pros. Draft experts saw him as a contender to be the top drafted QB in this year’s class when the season began, and is still considered one of the top 5-10 draft eligible quarterbacks in the eyes of most publications. Beck will finish the season with 3,485 yards with 28 TD’s and 12 INT’s over 13 games.

Georgia seems likely to turn to Gunner Stockton for its College Football Playoff Quarterfinal at the Sugar Bowl. The redshirt sophomore brings more of a running threat to the lineup, and sparked the Bulldogs with both his legs and arm in their come from behind win over Texas in Atlanta. A native of Tiger, Georgia, Stockton was unanimously ranked as one of the top 10 quarterbacks in the 2022 recruiting class. He broke Georgia state high-school records with 13,652 passing yards and 177 passing touchdowns during his time at Rabun County. He also ran for 77 touchdowns as a prep player.

Stockton was 12/16 passing for 71 yards with 1 interception in his appearance against Texas in the SEC Championship. If Georgia needed to turn elsewhere, redshirt freshman Jaden Rashada or freshman Ryan Puglisi would likely be the next two quarterbacks on the depth chart.
