As expected, Georgia dropped in the USA Today coaches poll after a road loss to Ole Miss. What wasn't expected is for the Bulldogs to come in ranked one spot above the Rebels at No. 10 in the Coaches Poll, after being dominated yesterday. The two teams were flipped with Ole Miss at No. 10 and Georgia at No. 11 in the AP Poll. The top two teams remained the same with Oregon at No. 1 and Ohio State at No. 2, with Texas moving up to No. 3. Georgia's next opponent, Tennessee, moved up to No. 4. A total of nine SEC teams are in the top 25.

Earlier in the season Alabama gave Georgia their first regular season SEC loss since the 2020 season, snapping the Bulldogs 39 game win streak. Ole Miss just became the first SEC team besides Alabama to beat Georgia since Florida in the 2020 season. The Crimson Tide also defeated the Bulldogs in the SEC Championship game in 2021 and 2023. In what was billed a do or die game for the rebels, Kirby Smart gave Ole Miss for playing a really good game.

“Yeah, first off, a lot of credit to Ole Miss, great atmosphere,” Smart said after the loss. “They played a really good game, I thought Lane had his team ready to play. We obviously struggled in a lot of areas. We had miscues, mistakes, penalties, things that are really hard to overcome, especially when you play a really good football team, and they are.”

Ole Miss head coach Lane Kiffin pointed to last season's blowout in Athens to the reason they recruited the elite players out of the portal the way they did. "A year ago we lost to these guys by like 30. We made a decision, we've got to recruit differently," Kiffin told ESPN's Molly McGrath on the field after the game. "We've got to to go shopping. We planned for this game for a year, game-planned all offseason."

Both teams will try to win their remaining games with a chance to make the college football playoffs.
