Dawgs Central Off the Cuff - Week 3

The Dawgs Central team launched a new show this weekend. Off the Cuff will be a weekly show to react to sites and scenes across the wacky world that is college football. Dawgs Central members can join the show live each week.

You can also listen to the show wherever you get your podcasts:

A few highlights from this week's show:

Georgia 48 - South Carolina 7

Georgia beat South Carolina handily on Saturday. The Dawgs were on South Carolina from the jump and did not relent.

Kirby didn’t seem happy about an early fake punt or South Carolina going for it on 4th down and gave us a beautiful FDMF moment:

Shane Beamer is going to have to turn his swag on, like he did in the offseason for that viral hype video, to get things back on track for South Carolina:

Are the Gamecocks are giving up? Hell no! What kind of question is that? Get out of here, man.

App State 32 - Troy 28

Troy led 28-24 after a goal line stand at their own 2 to stop App State with 1:13 left. They ran 3 plays and chose to take a safety on 4th and 1 from their own 11.

Not only did the safety make it a 2 point game (so a FG would win it), but they squib kicked the safety kickoff which gave App State the ball around mid-field. The safety hit the over 52.5, so it was a good move for bettors... but bad move for Troy.

Then the Hail Mary happened:

Then ... after Chase Brice throws a Hail Mary to win the game ... he helps women and children safely storm the field. A true folk hero of Boone, NC.

Penn State 41 - Auburn 12

Auburn had the worst performance in Jordan Hare Stadium since Sam Hunt did country rap at the Kenny Chesney concert in Jordan-Hare back in 2016.

Not only did Auburn lose at home to Penn State, but they did it during an orange-out … after the fans demanded orange jerseys and their social media team spent all week sending signals about orange… only for the team to come out in the traditional navy and lose badly.

After surviving a coup by boosters during the offseason, Harsin is in trouble. Stewart Mandel among others tweeted that the boosters were trying to fire Harsin before the fourth quarter. I don't think he's wrong.

Honestly, I can’t figure out if Harsin or Auburn that’s the most dysfunctional. This tweet sums it up:

Florida 31 - South Florida 28

Florida escaped USF in the Swamp on Saturday. The Gators barely missed a loss to UCF and USF in the same 12 months.

Florida did not look great in the win, and Anthony Richardson has still not thrown a TD pass 3 games into the season. Carson Beck, Georgia’s backup QB, has thrown more TD passes than Richardson this year. AR ended the game vs USF with a QBR of 11.6…

Richardson now has 0 TDs, 4 INTs and 3 tackles in his first three games of the 2022 season. Just a crazy stat line.

My favorite analysis was this guy who said Richardson has not earned a nickname:

Cole Cubelic posted a photo of Richardson dunking from the free throw line. Richardson may not be the best QB at the moment, but he would be a helluva power forward.

Wyoming 17 - Air Force 14

Wyoming hosted Air Force up at War Memorial Stadium in Laramie, WY. Air Force came into the game as a 16.5 point favorite and left a 3 point loser.

The go ahead TD for Wyoming looked exactly like you think a go ahead TD would look like in Wyoming vs Air Force. What a beautiful scrum:

So naturally, someone put $13,000 down on the Wyoming ML:

+230 odds ended up winning $29,900 on the Wyoming Cowboys! Personally, I would've made sure I bet enough to clear a clean $30,000... but that's just me.

The only explanation for laying that kind of money on this game is that the guy knew that Josh Allen’s dad was singing the national anthem:

Oregon 41 - BYU 20

Dan Lanning has Oregon back from the dead with a big win over #12 BYU. Bo Nix had 257 yards of total offense and 5 TDs... which is 4 more TDs than Auburn scored on Penn State.

Dan got some help from the ESPN GameDay crew when everyone except guest picker Luke Combs picked BYU to win the game:

Eastern Michigan 30 - Arizona State 21

Did Herm Edwards get fired in the end zone of Sun Devil Stadium?

Arizona State is no longer “Firm for Herm” after losing to the Eastern Michigan Eagles. The Eagles, who lost to Louisiana by 4 TDs last week, went into Sun Devil Stadium as a 20.5 point underdog and came out with a win.

After the game, ASU President Michael Crow & AD Ray Anderson had an awkward meeting with Herm in the end zone:

Arizona State has now officially fired Herm Edwards:

Alabama 63 - ULM 7

We didn’t have time to get to Alabama tonight but just know that Nick Saban challenged their competitiveness this week then their vaunted defense went out and gave up a 57 yard TD drive to Terry Bowden’s Louisiana-Monroe in the second quarter.
